Lohagad Fort Trek can be done throughout the year but the best time is from September to March. The weather during this time is pleasant and low in humidity. However, Monsoons is also a great time as this region received heavy rainfall and the view during this time is breath-taking.

Lohagad, also known as the Iron Fort is one of the most famous hill forts in Maharashtra that stands at an elevation of 1033 metres above the sea level. Lohagad has witnessed numerous cultural shifts in the hands of various rulers and dynasties like Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Bahamanis, Nizams, Mughals and the Marathas. In 1648 AD, this fort was captured by Shivaji Maharaj but later had to handover it to the Mughals in 1665 AD.

During 1670 AD, the fort was re-captured by Shivaji who then converted it as his treasury. This fort became the holding place of all the loot items from Surat. During the Peshwa Time, this fort became a home to Nana Phadnavis who built numerous structures like step-well and big tank. Now, it has been declared as a protected monument by Government.

Lohagad is one of the most beautiful hill stations in Maharashtra. It is 52 Kilometres from Pune and very close to Lonavala Hill Station. Lohagad is tucked at an elevation of 1033 metres (3389 feet) above the sea level and offers mesmerising views from the hilltop. It is connected to the adjacent Visapur Fort with a small range. Lohagad overlooks Pavana Reservoir and other nearby attractions. Lohagad is home to a famously known fort in Maharashtra, Lohagad Fort which is also known as Iron Fort.

Travellers coming from Pune to Lohagad can take Lonavala Local Train. The timing of this train is as follows- Pune Station 06:27 AM Shivaji Nagar 06:33 AM Malavli Station 07:40 AM You may take the train as per your convenience and closeness to the station.

Once done, you need to reach Lonavala Railway Station on platform number 3 by 8:15 AM. After this, you will be transferred to Lohagad Fort base, which is the starting point of your trek.

Lohagad Fort trek is easy as it mainly includes climbing stairs and very less trek. Even a novice can join this expedition without any difficulty.
