Kamakshi Amman Temple: Dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi and is amongst the 51 Shakti Peethas in the country. Believed to be the base of the holy trinity of goddesses, the temple has magnificent architecture, a gold-plated Vimanam, walls covered in murals, a 100 pillared hall, and even an elephant sanctuary.
Jain Temple: An important place for Jains, this 9th-century temple is dedicated to Lord Mahavir. Its beautiful Dravidian architecture and walls adorned with stunning paintings that tell the story of Jain culture are a must-see.
Varadharaja Perumal Temple: This 10th-century temple built by the kings of Vijaynagar is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Its architecture comprises intricate carvings and around 32 shrines within the complex.
Devarajaswami Temple: Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this ancient temple has a water tank that houses his huge statue, that’s taken out once every 40 years for 48 days and immersed again. There is a marriage hall here built dedicated to the marriage between Goddess Laxmi and Lord Vishnu.
