So, you need to reach Tyrna Village which is where the hike begins and is easily accessed from Cherrapunjee around a 20-30 minuteS drive away from there. Once reaching Nongriat, there would be 3000 steep steps winding around a hill that also involves passing through shaky bridges.
Living Root Bridge is spotted in the southern part of the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya. These are hand made by Khasi tribe and Jaintia from the aerial roots of rubber fig trees. They provide a stable alternative to wooden bridges which decompose and get destroyed during the lengthy monsoon seasons.
It usually takes around 15 years for a new root bridge to become strong to bear the weight of people crossing the bridge. The roots continue to grow and strengthen even more over time and some of them are considered as hundreds of years old.
