Is Adam's Peak hard to climb?

The Adam’s Peak climb is considered to be moderately tough and steep. The climb is through stairs which number almost 5000 in total to the top. The peak itself sits at a height of around 2243 m.

Since there are stairs all the way to the top, the climb should not be tough for inexperienced climbers. Anyone able to withstand moderate physical activity can do the climb in phases by resting on the way. The peak is also known as Sri Pada.

Why is it called Adam's Peak?

The Adam’s Peak is also known as Sri Pada which translates to god’s footprint. The name comes from a natural hollow at the peak shaped like a footprint which is interpreted by the different faiths to be the footprint of their god. The Buddhists claim the natural hollow to be the footprint of Buddha’s left foot while the Hindus claim it is the footprint of Lord Shiva.

The interpretation of the natural hollow by the Muslims and Chirstians is that it is the footprint of Adam and it was made when he took his first step after he was kicked off the Garden of Eden by God .

How long does it take to climb Adam's Peak?

It takes an average of 5-7 hours to climb to the 2243 m high Adam’s Peak which also goes by the name Sri Pada. Bathroom facilities are available in plenty along the route and one can also find many hawkers and tea shops selling snacks and beverages all along the climb.
