When can I find snow in Spiti Valley?

You can find snow in Spiti Valley during the months of December, January, February and March. Spiti Valley experiences winters during these months, when the weather is cool and pleasant during the days and the temperatures drop to sub-zero levels at nights. It is in these months when you can see a dense blanket of white snow all around you in Spiti.

What is Spiti valley famous for?

Spiti Valley is famous for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Additionally, it is known all over the county for its ancient monasteries, which boast of amazing architecture, stunning designs and peaceful ambiance. You can also find a lot of exotic wildlife and birds here, including Siberian Ibex, Red Fox, Golden Eagle and more.

How many days are enough for a Spiti valley tour by car?

For the Spiti Valley Tour by car, eight days and seven nights are enough. The tour starts from Manali or New Delhi and ends back to either of these places. During these 8 days, some of the key places that you will visit include Key Gompa Monastery, Spiti, Hikkim and Komik.

Can I have liquor or smoke while we're on the trek?

No, these substances are strictly prohibited.

What clothes and equipment should I carry?

Make sure to carry warm and comfortable clothing as temperature can drop, pack good quality trekking shoes, slippers and extra pair of socks. It’s advisable to carry sunscreen lotion or any other skin moisturisers as the sun at the top can be harsh. Water bottles and energy bars/snacks are advisable. A Flashlight (with spare batteries) will help once the sun goes down and it’s always smart to carry insect repellent and emergency medical kit.

Will food and safe drinking water be provided during this trek?

All your meals are provided on this trek along with fun cookout sessions. Himalayan water is considered a clean and mineral water but to be on the safe side you will get boiled water with chlorine tablets.

Does one feel altitude sickness? If yes, what can be done to avoid it?

Altitude sickness is very common among trekkers during himalayan treks, it is wise to consult your doctor for the right medication before your trip. Drinking lots of water can also help stabilize the body along with resting at regular intervals. The best rate of acclimatization is to gain no more than 300m (1000 feet) per a day. If you increase this rate you will be much more susceptible to Elevation Sickness. Getting adequate sleep can also help avoid this.

What is the best time to go?

Spiti remains cut off from the rest of India for 6 months of the year. Thick Himalayan snow blocks the mountain passes, making it almost impossible for road transport to pass through. The summer months of late May to late September are therefore the best time to visit Spiti.
