The Moon Peak trek follows the established trails used by the 'Gaddi shepherds' en route their summer grazing pastures in the upper Raavi Valley and Lahaul, in this trail to the south there are mesmerizing views of the Indian plains; to the north- the sacred peak of Mani Mahesh Kailash and the snow-capped Pir Panjal Range. Another major point for the trek is that it starts from McLeodganj which is home to His Holiness 'the 14th Dalai Lama' and the site of the Tibetan exiled community’s main temple. McLeodGanj is a trekker’s paradise and also a place for food lovers! The authentic Tibetan Cuisine will tantalize your taste buds, and the warmth of the locals will make the experience more memorable

How to reach Mcleodganj:
By Air:
Nearest Airport: Gaggal Airport or Dharamsala- Kangra Airport or Kangra Airport is the nearest airport for reaching McLeodganj. It is located at a distance of 20 km from McLeodganj. The distance from the airport to McLeodganj can be covered by road in 30 minutes.
By Rail:
Pathankot is located around 100 km from McLeodganj and is the nearest broad gauge railway station. The nearest railway station from McLeodganj is Kangra, which is a narrow-gauge railway station and it is 30 km away. Train travel enthusiasts can take this journey to enjoy the marvels of the railway, but this journey takes a longer time as it is a toy train. There are direct trains from Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jammu Tawi, Amritsar, Tatanagar, Durg, and Haridwar. Multiple trains in a day connect Delhi and Jammu Tawi via Pathankot.
By Road:
State-owned buses connect the city with other neighboring cities. Delhi, located at a distance of 530 km from Mcleodganj is connected by frequent deluxe buses. Chandigarh (275 km) and Dharamshala (5 km) are also well connected with Mcleodganj.
Moon Peak Expedition Inclusions:
1. Accommodation – You will be staying in tents for 4 nights of the trek (3 people/tent). Room/tent is separate for the male and female participants.
2. Meals – (Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner). We provide simple, nutritious vegetarian food on all days of Moon Peak.
3. Camping charges – All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included.
4. Trekking equipment – High-quality tents and sleeping bags in all the camps. Sleeping bags can withstand temperatures as low as -10 ºC.
5. Safety equipment – First aid kit, oxygen cylinders, oximeter, etc. will be with guide/trek leader and at the campsite as well to deal with emergencies.
6. Expert trek Leaders – All our trek leaders are at least qualified in basic/advanced mountaineering and first aid course.
7. Expert Trek support team – The mountain staff on this trek consists of certified guides, cooks, helpers, and porters.

While there is no way to avoid altitude sickness, there are ways in which you can minimise its occurrence by taking a few easy precautions. Avoid caffeine and smoking a few days before the trek starts.This helps in avoiding headaches that can be confused for AMS. Your water intake should be sufficient every day. Less water intake will result in headaches due to altitude. Walk at a comfortable pace to gain altitude slowly.
The best time to go for a Moon Peak Trek is around the months of May to October. Since the surrounding areas experience hot and humid weather during this time, they can get a respite from all the scorching heat and head to the Moon Peak to enjoy splendid weather conditions. Since the peak lies in the vicinity of Dhauladhar Mountains, one can clearly see the snow laden peaks as they continue their way to the top.
The base-camp of Moon Peak Trek is Mcleodganj and reaching here is quite an easy affair. One can easily find roadways running to and from Mcleodganj from various surrounding cities. In addition to this, one can also book a flight to the Jolly Grant Airport and cover the remaining distance via roads.
It is recommended for beginners to buy good quality trekking shoes. So, trekking shoes with high ankle support, and good quality material that is water-resistant, would be perfect to purchase
