Bijli Mahadev Temple is a sacred temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and sits atop Mathan Hills. This temple is located at a height of 2460 meters from sea level and it is built in Pahari style with intricate carvings on the wall. On the top of the temple, there is also a 60 feet high flagpole shaft, Shiva Lingam enshrined is the most interesting feature of the temple.
As per a popular belief, every year the lightning strikes the shaft and Shiva lingam is shattered into several pieces (which symbolizes that Lord Shiva absorbs the dangers and the sufferings upon himself and keeps the people safe). This lingam is later restored by the priest of the temple using butter and satto as adhesives. Owing to this remarkable fact the temple gets its name as Bijli Mahadev.
