About the Yuksom Dzongri Trek:

The Yuksom Dzongri trek will take you to the heart of the beautiful Sikkim landscape. One will be tasked to make their way through the rugged, challenging and fascinating trails. Offering you a glimpse of some of the magnificent peaks like Kabru (7,353m), Ratong (6,678m), Kanchenjunga (8,534m), Koktang (6,147m), Pandim (6,691m) and Narsingh (5,825m). What is the route for Dzongri Trek?

The Dzongri trek commences from the Khangchendzonga National Park in Yuksom. From here, the trek travels to Sachen camp, through dense forests of pine and oak. From thereon, trekkers will travel through the magnolia forests of Bakhim, and onwards to Tshoka Village, where they will camp for the night. The next day, a 5-hour trek from Tshoka will take you to the flower laden Dzongri. From Dzongri again, the trek takes a reverse route, and makes its way to Tshoka, and onward to Yuksom.

What is the duration for Dzongri Trek?

The entire trekking tour, including sightseeing tours along with the trek itself, takes around 11 days and 10 nights to be completed. However, the trek may take a little longer in case of unfavorable weather situations.

When is the best time to do Dzongri Trek?

The best time for Dzongri Trek is from mid March to mid May and then from mid September to November. These months have pleasant climate, abundant sunshine, and clear skies. During these months, you can enjoy unhindered views of the peaks of surrounding mountains like Kanchenjunga, Sabru South, Kabru north (7338 meters) and Simvo.

What level of fitness is expected from me for the Dzongri Trek?

One has to be Relatively Fit and Healthy to complete this trek. Normal hiking for 6 to 7 hours a Day is one of the most required qualification for this high altitude trek. One has to be mentally prepared along with good health to undertake high altitude trekking.

In order to complete this trek without much difficulties one has to make sure to do some excercises like Running and Long distance uphill trekking atleast a months before a trek. This excecises really helps you keep Fit and Healthy during the trek.

By train: New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the nearest railway station located 145 km from Yuksom. From the railway station, you can reach Yusom in 5.5 hours by cab.

By flight: The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport which is located 152 km from Yuksom. From the airport, you can reach Yusom in 6 hours by cab.

What will be the temperature like on Yuksom Dzongri Trek?

In Summer (May - June) the average day temperature varies between 15°C to 25°C, and night temperature between 8°C to 15°C. At Dzongri the day time temperature ranges between 7°C to 15°C and at night between 3°C to -2°C.

In Autumn (Mid September to end October) the average day temperature varies between 13°C to 20°C, and night temperature between 2°C to 7°C. At Dzongri the day temperature ranges between 3°C to 10°C and at night between 3°C to -4°C.

Dzongri Trek is a moderately difficult trek and the trail has a gradual ascend. During this week-long trek, you will trek only for 8-9 km per day in the morning and evening. Hence, you can get enough rest later in the day. However, being a high-altitude trek, prior trekking experience is mandatory and the Dzongri Trek recommended only for seasoned trekkers with good fitness and endurance levels.
