About Canoening and Village Experience:

Take a full-day backwater cruise in Kumarakom that provides an experience of the lively rural life and the stunning beauty of Kerala's backwaters. Your day begins at the Canoe Kerala jetty, where you will be joined by your guide and board a canoe. You will be able to paddle an individual canoe, or otherwise be seated comfortably as a local boatman takes you along quiet canals lined with swaying coconut palm trees. You will catch a glimpse of various colorful birdlife species, watch the everyday activity of toddy tappers, and see villagers skillfully weaving coir and coconut leaves. Enjoy a hot cup of chai at a local tea spot and chat with locals. After a healthy Kerala-style breakfast, you will accompany your guide to the local market to buy fresh ingredients and thus get an idea of local spices and produce. Then, attend an interactive cooking class to learn about authentic Kerala cuisine and indulge in the food you cook with your guide during lunch (vegetarian/non-vegetarian) cooked using your marketplace purchase, served on a banana leaf. In addition, you can also try your hand at fishing (on prior request), visit a toddy shop and meet residents as you taste the local brew. As the evening descends, you will cruise the quiet canals watching the ancient art of casting fishing nets while munching on traditional snacks served with tea, as the day winds down.
