Audubon Aquarium, New Orleans:
The Audubon Aquarium is located on the Mississippi River in New Orleans. It reopened in June 2023 after undergoing renovations that included the merger of the Audubon Insectarium. The facility offers visitors the opportunity to explore aquatic ecosystems such as the Gulf of Mexico exhibit, which is a 400,000-gallon tank with marine animals found near offshore oil platforms. A 30-foot Caribbean Reef tunnel provides a walk-through glimpse of tropical fish and coral life. The Amazon Rainforest Gallery is home to piranhas, anacondas, tortoises, and sloths in a climate-controlled habitat. The Mississippi River Gallery and "Down the Bayou", both regional displays, feature local Louisiana species, such as paddlefish, catfish, owls, and a leucistic alligator.
The Insectarium, housed in the same structure, features a butterfly garden, motion-sensitive display panels, and insect-themed exhibitions with tastings. The aquarium also has a 60-foot touch pool with stingrays and small sharks, as well as regular animal presentations. The organisation houses around 3,600 animals from more than 250 different kinds. A single entry ticket covers both the aquarium and the insectarium, allowing visitors to explore both aquatic and terrestrial exhibits during their visit.
