About Aliyar:
Aliyar, in Tamil Nadu, lies in a region where forest and farmland begin to meet. The terrain is marked by dry deciduous growth, shallow slopes, and stretches of cultivated ground. Canals run quietly through parts of the area, built long ago as part of the dam system nearby. The place sits close to Monkey Falls and the Aliyar Dam, both known locally, though the surroundings carry on without much disturbance. Wildlife passes through now and then—seen at times, but more often noticed through signs left behind. The landscape does not ask for attention but remains steady in its presence. It is not a tourist-heavy zone, but rather one that lends itself to slow exploration and time spent outdoors. Those arriving from the city often find the countryside stretch leading to Aliyar to be a steady shift away from traffic and noise.
About Aliyar Canal Trek:
The trail starts near the dam and stretches for about 8 kilometres in a single direction. It moves along a canal that runs through forest cover, mostly dry deciduous in nature. The walk, taken without rush, tends to last around three hours. Along the way, bird calls are a regular presence. Now and then, one may come across footprints or droppings that suggest the movement of animals like deer or elephants through the area. The path stays mostly even, with occasional patches of undergrowth or exposed rock, shaped by the forest that holds it. The walk is led by a guide, and permissions and transportation to and from the starting and ending places are pre-arranged. Simple refreshments are planned, as are simple handouts such as a route map and bird guide, to keep the experience focused and grounded.
