Things to Do in Pelling

Rimbi Waterfalls is a captivating natural wonder tucked amidst the lush landscape around 12 km from Pelling city center, Sikkim, India. Known as one of Sikkim’s most popular sightseeing destinations, Rimbi Waterfalls creates a breathtaking sight, allowing tourists to enjoy this scenic retreat. 

A valley of scenic beauty and rich Sikkimese culture, Darap Village is located in the western district of Sikkim, near the town of Pelling. This natural treasure is located at the edge of Kangchenjunga and has recently transformed into one of India's most serene and tranquil holiday destinations. 

Located at a distance of 10 km from Yuksom and 30.4 km from Pelling is the spectacular Kanchenjunga Waterfalls. It is a perennial waterfall whose pristine water is believed to have originated high up from the glaciers of the mighty Mount Kanchenjunga. Pemayangtse Monastery is a revered Buddhist gem founded in the early 17th century by a Buddhist Lama called Lhatsun Chempo. Pemayangtse Monastery, believed to be Sikkin’s one of the oldest monasteries, is located in the dazzling town of Pelling in West Sikkim, India. 

A visit to the Rabdentse Ruins, an archaeological site, must be on your travel itinerary if you are visiting Pelling. Founded by Tensung Namgyal in the year 1670 AD, Rabdentse remained the second capital of the former kingdom of Sikkim till 1793 CE. The place was destroyed by the Nepalese invasion in the 18th century and transformed into ruins. Currently, the Archaeological Survey of India is maintaining and restoring the place.

The location is well known for its historical significance and scenic beauty. The ruins are surrounded by dense forest, and you will need to go on a 15-minute scenic trek to reach them. Once there, you will be rewarded with a spectacular vista of the Kanchenjunga range, the Pemayangtse Monastery and the rushing river flowing through the foothills. Explore the ruins and look out for its various attractions such as the Namphogang, the ruins of Taphap Chorten, the Dab Lhagang, and the remnants of Risum Gompa. 

The Singshore Suspension Bridge is a bridge of 240 metres that connects Dentam and Uttarey in Sikkim. This is one of the highest bridges in Sikkim and offers stunning views of the hills, valleys, streams and waterfalls. The bridge was originally built to cut down the distance between the two villages. Today, the village continues to attract a lot of tourists and is now a major tourist attraction.
