Situated above the ancient Thal Ghat in Maharashtra’s Igatpuri taluka, Tringalwadi Fort is a scenic and historically rich place in the Western Ghats. Built in 1594 CE during the Nizam Shahi dynasty, the fort once supervised crucial trade routes between Nashik and the Konkan coast. Surrounded by misty hills and lush forests, Tringalwadi Fort provides a peaceful escape for trekkers and history fans.
At the base of the fort, you will find a beautiful Jain temple with a sanctum that houses the idol of Tirthankara Rishabhanatha and a large sabha mandapa. A single rock was used to carve the western entrance of the fort, which features an idol of Hanuman and intricate Sharabha patterns. There are rock-cut water cisterns, a temple dedicated to Goddess Bhavani, and the remains of ancient buildings inside. The semi-circular bastions provide beautiful views of the whole area, particularly during monsoon season.

By Road:
By Car/Taxi- Tringalwadi Fort is roughly 10.4 km from the Igatpuri city centre. It will take you 25 minutes to reach the base village via Tringalwadi Dam Road. From the base, you can take a 2.5-km trek to the fort entrance.
By Trek: The Tringalwadi Fort is accessible from the base village on foot. The moderate-level hike for 45 to 60 minutes passes along scenic rocky trails and forests.

This historic Jain cave temple, which is believed to have been constructed in the 10th century, is situated at the base of the fort. Inside the temple, you will see the intricately carved entrance, the serene idol of Tirthankara Rishabhanatha in the sanctum, and the serene sabha mandapa (assembly hall). You can take a peaceful break at this spiritual site before or after your hike.

The Tringalwadi Trek is a moderate-level trek. It takes roughly 1-1.5 hours to reach the summit from the base village. You will pass through rocky paths, wooded areas, and natural steps. For a cooler and more peaceful hike, it is best to begin early in the morning to avoid the heat.
Tringalwadi Fort was built to protect the ancient trade route between Konkan and Nashik. It is thought to have been constructed in the 10th century. Shahaji Raje lost at Mahuli and gave the fort to the Mughals in 1636. After Trymbakgad fell in 1818, it was one of the forts given to the British.
Igatpuri Railway Station, which is around 10.3 km from Tringalwadi Fort, is the closest train station. You can take a local taxi or autorickshaw to get to the base village from the station. After a 20-25 minute drive, you can hike through lush forests to the fort.
