Periyar Tiger Reserve, nestled in the Cardamom and Pandalam Hills of the Southern Western Ghats, is one of India's most visited protected areas. Spanning across Idukki, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta districts in Kerala, the reserve was recognized for its exceptional conservation work. In 2022, it was named the Best Managed Tiger Reserve among 54 reserves in the country by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

It is a wildlife haven home to Bengal tigers, Indian elephants, Indian gaurs, sambar deer, wild boars, and leopards. Reptiles like king cobras, pythons, and monitor lizards thrive here, along with birds such as the Malabar grey hornbill, great hornbill, kingfishers, and crested serpent eagle.
