Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is a heaven for avian life. Every year, more than 60 species of birds flock to the sanctuary to escape the harsh and inhospitable winters of Siberia, Central Asia and Europe. These include gulls, terns, sandpipers, herons, cormorants, and whimbrels. The sanctuary is native to Malabar hornbills, kingfishers, darters, woodpeckers, and Brahminy kites. The wetlands provide both food and shelter to these wandering birds.
